BGF Industries in Altavista is seeking a Twisting Technician on second shift (4pm to 12am).

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:
Set-up, repair, and maintain Ringtwisters, Cable Twisters, Winders, Quillers, Hot Melt, Lex, Eltex, and perform PM as scheduled.
 
 
MACHINES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT USED:
General mechanic tools, Twisters, Winders, Quillers, Lex machines, Eltex machines, strobelight, tensiometers, twist checker, flowmeter, tachometer, air gauges, denier meter wheel, gram scales, small oven (LOI), strobeotac (% solids), AR39 computer, PC and printer, calculator, dryers, tow motor.
 
 
MATERIALS USED:
Mirror boards, yarn, lubricants, belts, and machine parts.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1*Set-up, repair, maintain Ringtwisters, Cable Twisters, Winders, Quillers, HotMelt, Lex, and Eltex machines according to set-up specifications.
2*Diagnose and repair machine conditions that affect yarn quality.
3*Program AR39 computers.
4*Change travelers as needed.
5*Lubricate machinery as scheduled.
6*Perform scheduled PM on equipment.
7Advise management on parts inventory problems.
8Maintain control charts on machines and adjust settings as needed.
9Perform general housekeeping as needed.
10Maintain and repair Eltex Vacuum System equipment.
11Receive, steam as required, and bill raw and finished yarns.
12*Diagnose operator flags and repair as needed.
13*Check yarn denier, LOI, and make mirror boards.
14Working with product development area, develop new yarn configurations, and characteristics.
15Develop new set-up sheets from settings required in Number 14.
16Print set-up sheets and yarn labels, using PC and printer in office.
17Fill out deviation from set-up forms and follow-up logbook when deviation from set-up is necessary.
18*Measure and mix size for Lex machines - check percent solids.
19Load and set yarn dryers and steamers.
20Maintain and repair air splicers. 
21*Replace machine belts using electronic belt sealer. 
22Calibrate twist checker, tensiometer according to ISO procedure. 
23Employee properly manages Hazardous Waste/Universal Waste and Used Oil created from plant processes per work instructions/annual training. 
24Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

(X)STANDING-8 hours/shift on wood floor.
(X)SITTING-As required on floor or footstool to make mechanical repairs.
(X)MOVING-Travels over 159' to 300' spaces approximately 25 times/shift.
(X)CLIMBING-Climbs step stool to make machine repairs and adjustments.  Travel steps to get supplies.
(X)LIFTING-Lifts machine parts, pallets, etc. weighing up to 49 pounds 5 times/shift.  Lifting of objects weighing more than 50 pounds require assistance.
(X)PUSHING/PULLING-Moves truck with tools and associated parts throughout assigned work area each shift.
(X)REACHING-Reaches thru three body zones to a height of 87", required 5 times/shift.
(X)VISUAL ACUITY-Must be able to detect quality defects.  Must be capable of seeing 900's and 1800's yarn.
(X)BENDING/STOOPING-To floor level approximately 10 times/shift or more frequently as required to perform job.
(X)OTHER-Capable of normal twisting of body and arms.  Must use seat belt when operating towmotor.
 
ENVIRONMENTAL/SAFETY RISK REQUIREMENTS:
Hearing protection required, contact with fiberglass and fly, binder, lubricating oils and greases, etc.  When grinding or drilling holes in metal or driving metal with hammer or filing metal, safety glasses or goggles must be worn.
 
PREREQUISITES: 
Basic skills in reading, writing, and math.  Successful completion of Mechanical Aptitude Test.
 
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
Fluent in reading, writing, and math skills.  Accurately measure and read measuring devices in the department. Must pass Industrial Lift Truck.  Must have 20/40 correctable eyesight.
 
ASSESSMENTS: 
Medical, color perception. Mechanical Aptitude Evaluation.

 

Rate: $18.19 - $20.92 per hour
