Primary Function:
  • Manages supplier quality by monitoring performance and reporting feedback to Management and vendors for corrective action and continuous improvement.  Reviews quality requirements.
  • Must be able to interact with all functional levels in order to ensure documents are approved and released in a timely manner.
  • Closely reviews process change request and resolves any issues.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the overall quality system and a familiarity of plant processes.
  • Must be able to independently plan, conduct and prepare written audit reports.  Interviewing personnel at various levels is required.
  • Must be able to assist internal and LRQA auditors in completing audit objectives.
  • Excellent computer skills required to work with web software, databases, spread sheets.
  • Assists Product Engineers with the equipment calibration process – controlling the database and entering data. Apply knowledge of Industrial Textiles manpower, materials, methods, machines, measurements, and environment
 Machines/Tools/Equipment Used:
Personal computer, copy machine, calculator, printer, fax machine, etc.  Programs – Microsoft Office, Microsoft Access, SPC, flowchart, graphics, organizational, Intranet Publishing Packages, Minitab, M3, BARCO, Video editing software

Materials Used: Paper, pen, pencil, Documented procedures and records from manufacturing, inspection, and administrative areas. Software manuals and online help sections.

Supervision Received: Altavista Quality Manager

Direction Exercised: None directly, but cooperatively work with, lead, and direct employees, technicians and clerks.  May be required to work with any department, any shift, any problem or opportunity assigned

Job Responsibilities:
  1. *General
    1. Meet with Director and Site quality as needed, to communicate on a variety of topics including, quality, calibration and Process Change Requests
    2. Understanding of ISO 9001 documentation requirements for each assigned plant(s).
    3. Maintain BGF intranet system
      1. maintaining and using Microsoft Expression Web and Main Frame Databases
      2. Responsible for ensuring all web-based files are archived and backed-up electronically.
    4. Must be assertive and be able to interact with employees at all levels of the company in order to follow-up on overdue PCR’s and CAR’s.
  2. *Supplier Quality Management
    1. Create supplier specification documents with assistance from QC and R&D personnel
    2. Work with the receiving of raw material/non-conforming material.
    1. Monitor supplier quality performance and report feedback to vendors and management.
    1. Manage Supplier Corrective Action Request (CAR) process.
    1. Initiate, coordinate and maintain documentation for yarn evaluations.
    1. Communicate quality performance to manufacturing areas to aid in corrective action and continuous improvement.
    1. Lead and assist in supplier quality problem investigations, resolutions and dispositions.
    1. As needed, walk areas to determine any corrective actions that may need to be made related to: Quality, Training or Communication.
    1. Communicate with vendors as needed on quality related issues
    1. Assist with supplier quality audits.
  1. *Process Change Requests
    1. Coordinate change requests as they are created in PCR system
    2. Review all requests for accuracy and proper supporting documentation before sending for vote
    3. Responsible for ensuring only approved documents are released.
    4. Responsible for ensuring all printed controlled documents are promptly updated and that all obsolete documents are removed from use.
  2. *Calibration
    1. Maintain the Calibration Database and ensure that calibrations are completed correctly on schedule.  Work with outside vendors in coordinating calibrations and reviewing/recording associated paperwork in the database to keep records accurate. 
    2. Performs Fit-for-Use evaluations on selected gages, posts calibration data from technicians after approval by Department Manager, prepares monthly calibration reports, retrieves gages from the plant as needed to send them to vendors.
  1. LRQA Audit Assistant
    1. Provide technical assistance during LRQA audits.
    2. Work with auditor to show evidence of responsible areas (see Internal Audit Representative above)
    3. Attend audit meetings (opening, closing)
    4. Assist QC Manager in addressing audit findings.
  2. Internal Audits
    1. Responsible for assisting the internal auditor if necessary.
    2. Interact with auditor and employees to ensure audit objectives are achieved.
    3. Thorough understanding of the plant quality system required and plant layout.
    4. Provide auditor with requested information on responsible areas such as document control, records management, CAR & PAR systems.

Physical Requirements:
(x) Standing                        May be up to 10 hours per day on wood or concrete floor
(x) Sitting                             As required to perform tasks; frequency up to 50 times/shift or all day as necessary
(x) Moving                          Throughout Department and other departments to collaborate on issues; up to 30 times/shift – as far as 1200 feet in one direction
(x) Climbing                        As required to go from one level to another; up to 50 times/shift, using stairs, step stool & ladders as necessary
(x) Lifting                             As required to assist others; Anything over 50 pounds requires assistance; frequency may be 500 times/shift for filing and manual tasks
(x) Push/Pull                      May be 500 times/shift; Files, drawers, etc. & assist others
(x) Reaching                       Reach through three body zones and around body; Frequency may be 200 times/shift; weighing up to 20 pounds
(x) Visual Acuity                Prepare data and enter into PC; Depending on job may be required to detect color; minimum of 20/40 corrected eyesight
(x) Bending/Stooping     Depending on assignment may be up to 100 times/shift
(x) Hearing                          Adequate to communicate over telephone and in person
(x) Other                              May be required to operate a motor vehicle self-sufficiently to travel as necessary

Environmental/Safety Risk Requirements:
Exposure to Fiberglass, fly, dust, finishing fumes or other chemicals.  Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by job/task; Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses and Hearing Protection which is not an inclusive list

Prerequisites:  Bachelors of Science Degree

Preferred: Scientific or Engineering Bachelors of Science

Assessments:  Medical – Vision corrected to 20/20, drug screen and Hearing to normal speech
